Police probe house fire in Wollongong

Police are investigating following a house fire in Tarrawanna last night, NSW Police say.

About 6pm yesterday (Wednesday 14 February 2018), emergency services were called to a home on Kendall Street, Tarrawanna after reports of a fire.

Fire & Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze. No one was at home at the time.

Police from Wollongong Local Area Command established a crime scene and forensic examinations are being conducted.

Investigations into the fire, including whether there are any suspicious circumstances, are continuing.

The resident later attended Wollongong Police Station to report a stolen vehicle.

The blue Ford Falcon sedan with the NSW registration BNF 58U was last seen at the property in the morning.

About 1am today (Thursday 15 February 2018), a 41-year-old man was arrested and the stolen vehicle was recovered.

He has since been released pending further inquiries.

It is not yet known whether the incidents are linked.
