Police Probe Jewelry Store Thefts

Police are investigating after two jewellery stores were targeted by thieves in Berwick and Altona North today.

Officers responded to reports of three masked males armed with hammers and bats entering a jewellery store on High Street in Berwick about 12pm.

The offenders assaulted a shop keeper and smashed glass cabinets before stealing jewellery.

The three males fled the scene in an awaiting black Toyota Kluger, driven by a fourth male.

The shop keeper was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

It's believed the same offenders then targeted a jewellery store on The Circle in Altona North shortly after 1.30pm.

The same stolen vehicle was used to reverse into the roller door of the shop.

They were unable to gain access and drove from the scene empty-handed.

Crime scenes have been established and the investigation remains ongoing.

Police are also investigating reports of several masked males who approached a jewellery store at a

shopping centre in Narre Warren about 11.30am.

There was no attempt to enter the store or threats made before the trio fled the scene.

Investigators believe the three incidents are linked.
