Police were told about 1.10am (Friday 1 August 2025), the occupant of a home on Main Street, Crescent Head – a 46-year-old woman – was awoken after receiving a security camera notification.
The woman saw a man wearing a hooded jumper attempting to force open the back door.
After not being able to gain entry to the home, the man left.
About 15 minutes later, a 35-year-old woman was sitting on the back deck of a home on East Street, Crescent Head, when she saw a group walk up the back steps.
The woman ran into the home and locked the glass door behind her; however, one person – who was armed with a knife – kicked the glass door and forced entry into the home.
The woman was confronted, and her mobile phone taken.
Others entered the woman's bedroom and stole her handbag, before leaving and taking her car that was parked in the driveway. She was not injured.
About 1.55am, four people – two armed with knives – forced entry to a home on Main Street, Smithtown, and demanded the keys to a car that was parked in the driveway.
The occupant – a 53-year-old man – struck one of the group before they left the property empty-handed.
He was not injured.
The group attended a neighbouring property and forced the front door off its hinges before being disturbed by a number of neighbours, leaving in the stolen car.
About 4.40am, the occupant of a home on Wirang Street, South West Rocks, awoke to find two SUVs – that were parked in his driveway – had been stolen.
Officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District established crime scenes at each location and an investigation into the incidents commenced.
A short time later, the car from Crescent Head was found in South West Rocks. It's been taken for forensic examination.
About 8.15am, a SUV taken from South West Rocks was found on Cochrane Street, West Kempsey.
The second vehicle taken from South West Rocks – a white Kia Sportage – is still outstanding. Police are advising anyone with information about the whereabouts of this car to call Kempsey Police.
