Police Probe Multi-Vehicle Crash on Central Coast

An investigation underway following a serious multi-vehicle crash on the Hawkesbury River Bridge at Mooney Mooney earlier today.

About 7:10am (Thursday 8 May 2025), emergency services were called to the M1 Motorway, Mooney Mooney, following reports of a multi-vehicle crash.

On arrival, officers attached to Brisbane Water Highway Patrol found at least five vehicles had crashed in southbound lane three of three.

Most drivers escaped without injury or only minor injuries; however, the driver of a truck – a 19-year-old man – was trapped in his vehicle and sustained serious leg injuries.

He was released from the vehicle by FRNSW crews and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to the Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious condition.

All drivers underwent drug and alcohol testing, all returning negative results.

Southbound lanes of the M1 were closed for approximately 2.5 hours until the road was reopened at 9.45am.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is underway by Brisbane Water Highway Patrol officers.
