Police are continuing to investigate a suspected targeted incident in the Rose Bay area this morning, where a man sustained a gunshot wound to the hand.
Detective Acting Inspector Rick Newman said police were called to Ronnie Street around 10am after the injured man sought help from nearby residents.
"Initial inquiries suggest the man was initially in the Rosny Hill area with the alleged offenders, who have then driven him and his vehicle to Ronnie Street," Detective Acting Inspector Newman said.
"We believe a struggle has then occurred inside the vehicle, which is when the gun has discharged."
"The offenders, who were wearing balaclavas, fled the scene in the man's vehicle – a white Volkswagen Golf, registration L59PA."
"Police conducted a search of the Greater Hobart area, with the Westpac Rescue Helicopter utilised for a short time, however the vehicle and offenders have not yet been located."
Detective Acting Inspector Newman said the investigation is ongoing, with police following several lines of inquiry.
"We recognise this incident may cause concern in the community, and I want to reassure the public that at this stage we believe this was a targeted incident."
"We ask anyone who sees the stolen vehicle to contact police immediately, and not to approach it or its occupants."
Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 131 444, quoting reference OR788322.
