Police Probe Vandalism at Sydney Anzac Memorial

Sydney City officers are appealing for information after the Anzac War Memorial in Hyde Park was damaged last month.

Officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command commenced an investigation on Friday 26 September 2025 following reports of malicious damage at the Anzac War Memorial in Hyde Park, Sydney, the previous day.

Police were told that about 2.40pm on Thursday 25 September 2025, an unknown man entered the memorial and poured small amounts of an oil-like liquid onto stones throughout the structure before also pouring liquid onto a metal Anzac memorial plaque and leaving the scene.

Despite efforts from caretakers to remove the liquid the memorial remains damaged.

Following the incident police established a crime scene, and police commenced an investigation into the incident.

As investigations continue detectives are hoping to speak to a man who was seen in the area at the time of the incident who may be able to help investigators.

The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, believed to be aged between 40-50 years old, of a medium build, with dark hair, a beard and was last seen wearing black shorts and a black t-shirt.
