Detectives have released CCTV of two vehicles as they re-appeal for information that may assist their ongoing investigation into the shooting death of a teenager in Sydney's west earlier this year.
Just after 11pm on Saturday 15 February 2020, emergency services were called to Cabramatta Avenue, Miller, following reports that a teenager had been shot.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, the 18-year-old man died at the scene. He has since been formally identified as Omar Elomar.
Following initial inquiries by Liverpool Police Area Command the matter was referred to the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad who commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting under Strike Force Cero.
An 18-year-old man from Cartwright was charged with murder later in the month (Tuesday 25 February 2020). He remains before the courts.
As part of ongoing investigations, strike force detectives have released CCTV footage of two vehicles, seen in the area at the time of the shooting.
A silver sedan was seen driving along Cabramatta Avenue around the time of the shooting, while a red hatchback drove away from the scene shortly after.
Homicide Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty, said information from the community would be crucial to resolving this case.
"While investigators have previously made one arrest, we believe there were more people present at the time Omar was shot – and others that have knowledge of those involved," Det Supt Doherty said.
"It is our belief that the occupants of the vehicles depicted in the CCTV would have seen something that might assist our investigation.
"We've also received information suggesting a group of four to five males of Pacific Islander/Maori appearance were seen in the area and acting suspiciously.
"Anyone who has knowledge of this group or who can help detectives identify the vehicles – and the occupants – is urged to contact police," Det Supt Doherty said.
Omar's mother, Souad Elomar, is pleading for people to come forward and assist in delivering justice for her son.
"Omar was beautiful, loving, caring and the type of person who would put others needs before himself sacrificing his social time, his weekends to care for his brother with special needs," Mrs Elomar said.
"He was ambitious, he had started a new job and was two weeks into his TAFE studies, ready to take on the world.
"Our family have never-ending days of grief knowing that he will never come home, so if you know anything do the right thing, come forward and help us find some peace," Mrs Elomar said.
Investigations under Strike Force Cero are continuing.
