Police Respond to Motorcycle Crash at Sandfly & Margate

Police and emergency services were called to a serious, single vehicle motorbike crash on Sandfly Road Margate about 8.00pm last night where a 37 year old man received serious injuries.

The rider was travelling along Sandfly Road and failed to negotiate a turn before becoming airborne and landing in a ditch.

The man was transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a serious condition.

Inspector Jim Semmens from Southern District Support Services said that while investigations are continuing, police believe excessive speed was a contributing factor.

"We are asking motorists to not take any risks while traveling on our roads - we need to make sure everyone gets where they're going safely.

"Always remember the 'fatal five': speeding, seatbelts, drink and drug driving, inattention, and fatigue.

Anyone with information about the motorbike crash is asked to contact Tasmania Police on 131 444 or Crimestoppers online at www.crimestopperstas.com.au.
