Police responding to fatal traffic crash at Atherton

Forensic Crash Unit investigations continue after a woman struck by a vehicle in Atherton on February 18 passed away today.

Preliminary investigations indicate around 9:50am the woman was walking on the pedestrian crossing at Main Street when a white Mazda utility struck her.

The 83-year-old woman was transported to Atherton Hospital and then airlifted to Townsville Hospital with serious injuries.

Around 6:20am today the 83-year-old female was pronounced deceased at the Townsville Hospital.

The 59-year old male driver is assisting police.

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has dashcam footage is urged to contact police.

Investigations are continuing.
