Police responding to fatal traffic crash at Mount Julian

A 79-year-old woman has died after a two-vehicle crash at Mount Julian near Proserpine this morning.

Initial information indicates around 8.30am a Honda hatchback travelling east on Shute Harbour Road attempted to perform a u-turn, when it collided with a van travelling behind it.

Both vehicles caught fire as a result of the crash.

The woman from Proserpine, who was the sole occupant of the car, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A 21-year-old man and sole occupant of the van was taken to Proserpine Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The road is closed in both directions and diversions remain in place.

Police are appealing for anyone with dash cam vision or further information to contact them.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
