A man will face court today after he was arrested in the Murray River after allegedly attempting to evade police following a motorcycle pursuit on the New South Wales and Victorian border, NSW Police say.
About 6.20pm yesterday, police engaged in a pursuit with an alleged stolen motorcycle travelling west along Renmark Road, Wentworth.
The pursuit continued through a caravan park until the road terminated at a boat ramp.
Police further allege the man dropped the bike, removed his helmet and jumped into the Murray River and started to swim away from police.
Police commandeered a nearby boat and pursued the man, arresting him and safely returning him to shore.
The 36-year-old Dareton man was taken to Dareton Police Station. He was charged with two counts of speed dangerous-Skye’s law, drive while suspended, possess goods stolen outside the state and 10 warrants (one in NSW, nine in Victoria).
He was refused bail and appeared in Mildura Local Court today. He was again refused bail and is due to re-appear in Broken Hill Local Court on Monday 20 March 2017.
