Police are appealing for information following a crash in Greenvale this morning, Victoria Police say.

It is believed a northbound Mitsubishi van travelling along Mickleham Road struck at least one oncoming vehicle before crashing into a barrier about 500 metres north of the Somerton Road intersection about 6am.

The male driver managed to free himself from the vehicle, but appeared to have sustained leg and facial injuries as a result of the crash.

He then fled the scene, possibly being picked up by another vehicle nearby.

The man is perceived to be of Caucasian appearance and 30-40 years of age with a large build.

He was wearing a light-coloured long sleeve shirt, black tracksuit pants and boots.

Police are appealing for public assistance in identifying the man or any vehicle that may have attended and collected him.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or any erratic driving in the area prior to the crash is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
