Police search for man after couple assaulted in their home in Leeton

Police are searching for a man following an assault of a couple in their home in Central New South Wales, NSW Police say.

About 6.45pm today, a man, who was armed with a knife, entered a home on Whitton Road, Leeton, which is about 60km south of Griffith, and assaulted a 63-year-old male resident and a 61-year-old female resident.

The man then fled the location on a stolen quad bike.

Police were alerted to the incident and responding officers observed a man matching the description of the offender riding a quad bike.

Officers from Griffith Local Area Command activated their lights and sirens and commenced a pursuit with the man.

The pursuit continued through a number of local streets, before it was terminated by police for safety reasons.

The two residents were treated for their injuries which included bruising and lacerations. The man also suffered minor injuries after he was assaulted with a knife.

A crime scene was established and forensically examined by officers, with a number of items of interests located and seized.

The quad bike has also since been located and recovered by investigators.

Police continue to investigate the incident and would like to speak to a man who they believe may be able to assist with the incident.

He is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander in appearance, about 180cm-185cm tall, a solid build, and brown hair. He is also described as having tanned skin and was unshaven.

The man may be wearing a black shirt, blue shorts and a black baseball cap.

He should not be approached. Members of the public who see him should call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

Anyone with information about him, or his possible whereabouts, should contact their local police station or Crime Stoppers.
