Police search for missing swimmer in Maroubra

Police will resume their search this morning for a swimmer who went missing off Maroubra Beach yesterday, NSW Police say.

Just after 8.30pm today, police and emergency services were called to reports of two 14-year-old boys in trouble in the water at the southern end of Maroubra Beach.

Officers from Eastern Beaches Local Area Command attended. One boy was located in the water by a 26-year-old man who assisted him to shore.

The man returned to the water to assist the other teen, but was unable to locate him.

A search and rescue operation was commenced involving Marine Area Command, Police Rescue, the Ambulance Rescue helicopter and SLSA Lifeguards.

About 11.40pm, the search was suspended due to poor visibility and surf conditions.

The search is due to resume at 6.30am tomorrow, and will involve local police, officers from the Marine Area Command and local Surf Rescue crews.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
