Police search for Takahava Leveni after Footscray sexual assault

Detectives from the Sexual Crimes Squad have released images of a man they are searching for following a sexual assault in Footscray last Friday.

It's believed a man entered a residential property on the morning of 28 February.

It's not known how long he was inside the house, however about 6am the female resident heard a noise and went to investigate.

The man has then confronted her with a knife and sexually assaulted her.

He left the house shortly after and the woman was able to call police.

She suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The man is believed to have fled to area on foot.

Detectives have made extensive enquiries and are now looking to speak to Takavaha Leveni in relation to their investigation.

Leveni is 35-years-old, of Maori background, 175cm tall with a solid build and long dark hair often worn tied back.

He is of no fixed residence however is known to frequent the western suburbs area.

Detectives have also released images of Leveni in the hope someone recognises him and can provide information on his current whereabouts.

Police have undertaken a significant search for Leveni and spoken to his family and associates, however have so far been unable to locate him.

They are urging anyone who has had contact with him since last Friday, as well as anyone who knows his current location, to come forward.

Members of the public who see him are asked not to approach him and to contact triple zero (000) immediately.
