Police are searching for the driver of a stolen car that was pursued through the western suburbs overnight, according to SA Police.

Just after 11pm last night, police saw a Nissan Skyline on Marion Road at West Richmond travelling north. Checks on the registration showed the car was stolen.

Patrols pursued the car for a short time before terminating the pursuit on Tapleys Hill Road.

The police helicopter, PolAir was utilised to safely monitor the car as it went along Tapleys Hill Road, before it was dumped in Russell Terrace at Woodville Park.

The male driver fled the scene and despite a search by patrols and a police dog he was not located.

He is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, and was wearing a grey shirt, black jeans and was carrying a backpack.
