Police Searching for Leads in Car Fire Near Byron Bay

Police are investigating a suspicious car fire north of Byron Bay.

Emergency services were called to Tweed Valley Way, Yelgun, about 2.45am today (Saturday 1 April 2023), following reports of a car on fire.

Officers attached to Tweed/Byron Police District arrived and found a silver Holden Barina on fire.

Rural Fire Service attended and extinguished the blaze; however, the vehicle was destroyed.

The vehicle was unoccupied at the time and there were no reports of injury.

Police have established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the cause of the fire, which is being treated as suspicious.

As inquiries continue, police are urging anyone who may have information, dashcam footage from the area at the time, or who may have witnessed the incident to contact police.
