Police have appealed for information from the community after a man armed with a machete threatened staff and patrons at a hotel in Doonside overnight before stealing the cash register, NSW Police say.
About 1.30am today (Tuesday 28 August 2018), three staff members and three patrons were at a hotel in Graham Street when a man entered the premises and threatened them with the weapon.
After attempting to open a cash register unsuccessfully, the man was challenged by an employee.
The man struck the bar with the machete and demanded that the cash register be opened.
Another staff member approached the man and tried to calm him but further demands were made for the till to be opened.
When neither employee could open the cash register the man seized it, and fed from the hotel.
No one was injured during the incident.
Police were alerted with officers from Blacktown Police Area Command attending and establishing a crime scene.
A police dog unit attended with the offender tracked to nearby Earle Street, where it is believed a vehicle was parked.
The man has been described to police as being very tall with a slim build. He wore a black hooded jumper, balaclava, gloves and was armed with a machete.
Police have urged anyone with information about the robbery to come forward.
