Police seek info following serious assault in Queanbeyan

Police are appealing for public assistance as they investigate a serious assault of a man in Queanbeyan early this morning, NSW Police say.

Last night yesterday, a 19-year-old Batemans Bay man was with friends at a licensed premises on Crawford Street, Queanbeyan.

About 1:30am today the group left the premises and was waiting nearby for a taxi when an unknown man approached and attempted to stop a woman in the group.

The group walked away from the unknown man, when he allegedly struck the 19-year-old man’s head from behind, before a number of friends of the unknown man approached and assaulted him while he was lying on the road.

The group left the scene in a taxi, and the injured man was assisted by his friends at the scene before he attended Queanbeyan Hospital to be treated for bruising, swelling and cuts to his head, a fractured nose and three teeth knocked out.

Officers attached to Monaro Local Area Command were notified of the incident and commenced investigations.

As inquiries continue, police are appealing for any witnesses who have not yet come forward to contact them via Crime Stopers.
