Police seek information after suspicious fires at Singleton

Police are appealing for information following a number of suspicious fires in the Singleton area last year.

Between 11.30pm on Monday 4 and midnight on Tuesday 5 October 2021, emergency services responded to four grass fires around Lioness Park and John Street at Singleton.

The fires were extinguished by Fire & Rescue NSW.

On that same night, emergency services were called to the corner of Market and Patrick Streets, about 12.15am, following reports of a building fire.

Fire & Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze, with the vacant building destroyed and another seriously damaged.

Both buildings were unoccupied at the time and there were no reports of injury.

Officers from Hunter Valley Police District attended and established a crime scene.

Hunter Valley PD Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Matt Zimmer, said investigators are treating the fires as suspicious.

"Initial inquiries suggest due to the close proximity and timing of the fires, that all these incidents are linked, and that more than one person may be involved.

"During an assessment of the scene, police located multiple aerosol cans, which were seized for forensic examination," Det Insp Zimmer said.

As investigations continue, police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
