Police seek information after woman assaulted during home invasion at Port Kembla

An investigation is underway after a woman aged in her 70s was assaulted during a home invasion in the Illawarra earlier today.

About 7am (Tuesday 23 February 2021), police were called to a home on Fitzwilliam Street, Port Kembla, following reports of a home invasion.

Police have been told an unknown man forced entry to the home and assaulted the occupant, a 73-year-old woman. A male neighbour, aged in his 40s, came to assist and was also assaulted.

The man fled on foot empty-handed. Both residents have been taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A crime scene was established and detectives from Lake Illawarra Police District have commenced inquiries.

As investigations continue, detectives are appealing for anyone who may have seen a man in the area around the time of the incident.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his 30s and wearing dark clothing and a dark face mask.
