Police Seek Information On Disturbance At Tennant Creek 22 September

The Northern Territory Police Force is calling for information in relation to a large disturbance and three vehicle fires that occurred in Tennant Creek on Saturday morning.

Around 3am, Tennant Creek general duties officers responded to a report of a large group of people known to each other engaged in fighting on Hollis Street. It is alleged some members of the group were armed with weapons.

The group dispersed prior to police arrival and no injuries were reported to police.

While responding to the incident, police were notified of a vehicle being set alight nearby on the corner of Schmidt Street and South Street by an unknown offender. Around 5am, police received reports that an additional two vehicles were also set alight by unknown offenders at Mulga Camp. The vehicle fires were extinguished without incident, and no injuries were reported.

Two crimes scenes were established, and Tennant Creek Investigations has carriage of the investigation.

At this stage, police believe the incidents are linked. No injuries were reported to police and mediation efforts are ongoing to address the cause of the fighting.
