Police Seek Information On Launceston Crash

Police are calling for witnesses to a two-vehicle crash involving a black Hyundai on Wellington Street, Launceston, this morning.

A man in his mid-20s has been taken into custody in relation to the crash.

It is alleged the man was the driver of a Hyundai i30 station wagon seen to be driven erratically on Wellington Street about 9.25am, before crashing into a car at the intersection of Wellington and York streets.

Police had earlier attempted to intercept the driver.

It is alleged the man, aged in his mid-20s, tried to flee on foot following the crash and was later located by police on Elizabeth Street, where he was safely taken into custody.

The incident caused traffic disruptions on Wellington and York streets for about an hour.

There were no serious injuries reported.
