Police are appealing for public assistance after the armed robbery of a taxi driver in the state's north west overnight.
About 2.45am today (Friday 19 March 2021), police responded to reports a taxi driver was threatened by a man holding a knife during a robbery, on Wahroonga Drive, Tamworth.
Officers attached to Oxley Police District commenced an investigation. Police were told that when the 59-year-old man finished his shift and left his vehicle, he was approached by two males, unknown to him.
One of the men demanded money, allegedly threatening the driver with a knife. After a brief scuffle, the driver fell backwards, hitting his head on the ground.
The two men allegedly took the driver's backpack, containing cash, a mobile phone and bank cards. They were last seen running in parkland in Wahroonga Drive, towards Noonga Crescent.
Both men are described as being of thin build, aged between 17 and 20.
Police are appealing to any residents with CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage from that area, who may have captured the incident or the two males running from the scene, to contact Oxley Police District or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
