Police seek public assistance after home invasion

Officers from Melbourne Embona are appealing for public assistance following an aggravated home invasion which occurred in Collingwood on 20 November.

Investigators have been told five people used a sledgehammer in an attempt to break into an apartment on Harmsworth Street about 3.15am.

One of the offenders attempted to enter through a broken window but was pushed out by one of the occupants.

The offenders fled the scene and police were called.

Attending officers noticed a stolen grey Volkswagen Amarok with registration plates 1HL-1TG leaving the area as they were heading to the flat to assist the victims.

Investigators believe the occupants of the Amarok may be able to assist with their investigation into the aggravated home invasion and have released images of the vehicle in an attempt to locate it.

The Amarok was stolen in Newport on 18 November.
