Police seek public's help to find suspect in car theft with baby inside

Western District Police continue to search for a man wanted in connection with the theft of a car with an infant inside at Clearview this morning.

Just after 11am on Thursday 18 May, a woman had parked her car at a business in Hampstead Road and got out for a brief moment. At this time, a man got into her white Mazda SUV. The woman attempted to stop him but she was pushed to the ground and he drove off.

The woman's one-year-old baby boy was asleep in a car seat in the rear at the time of the theft.

Patrols quickly responded to the scene and searched neighbouring suburbs.

Police were able to track the car using the victim's mobile phone and the vehicle was located 20 minutes later in Rowe Circuit, Walkley Heights with the child safe inside.

The child has since been reunited with his mother.

The suspect is described as being of Caucasian appearance with a scraggly beard. He was wearing faded track pants with light lines down the side, a hooded jumper which was creamy in colour with a bit of white.

If anyone saw suspicious behaviour around Rowe Court at Walkley Heights and a Mazda CX9 SUV they are asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au
