Police seek witnesses following Mornington Peninsula incident

Somerville Highway Patrol officers are appealing for witnesses after a motorbike was seen travelling erratically in Frankston North overnight.

Police observed a motorcycle speeding along Frankston-Dandenong Road with a pillion passenger about 3.30am.

Officers attempted to intercept the bike on Cranbourne Road, however it failed to stop.

They continued to monitor the motorcycle through Moorooduc, Hastings and Mount Martha.

It is believed to have travelled along Peninsula Link, Moorooduc Highway and the Nepean Highway and was also seen crossing on to the incorrect side of the road.

The pillion passenger is believed to have been dropped off in the vicinity of South Beach Road.

The rider eventually abandoned the motorbike on Crib Road before fleeing on foot.

Police, with assistance from the Dog Squad, arrested a 33-year-old man a short time later on Creswell Street.

The Crib Point man was taken to hospital for observation, where he remains under police guard.

The passenger is yet to be located.

Anyone with information or who may have seen the bike travelling erratically throughout the area is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
