Police seek witnesses - Structure fire - Yuendumu

Northern Territory Police are calling for witnesses to a structure fire in Yuendumu earlier today.

Around 1am local police arrived on scene to a shed attached to the Yuendumu 'Big Store' which was engulfed by fire.

This fire destroyed part of the building, as well as a caravan that was being used for staff accommodation.

An NTFRS fire investigator, forensics and members of the Alice Springs Criminal Investigation Branch attended Yuendumu today with investigations underway to determine the cause of the structure fire, which is being treated as suspicious.

"The premises sustained significant damage and it is very fortunate that the rest of the building was saved from destruction and the occupants were able to escape without serious injury," said Constable 1/C Ash Everett-Smith

Police urge anyone who witnessed the incident or who has relevant information in relation to the fire, to contact police on 131444 or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 and quote reference 10037980.
