Police seek witnesses to Glen Waverly car fire

Police are investigating after a car was driven onto train tracks and set alight in Glen Waverley this morning, Victoria Police say.

Investigators have been told a BMW was driven onto train tracks before the occupants set fire to it about 300 metres east of Syndal Railway Station about 5.15am.

It’s believed the vehicle was displaying registration plates stolen from a car yard on Henry Street, Oakleigh sometime between 19 and 21 August, at the time of the blaze.

Kingston Crime Investigation Unit detectives will investigate if the vehicle was used during a series of burglaries across Melbourne’s south east, including a burglary in Manningham Road, Templestowe Lower about 12.30am today.

Anyone with information about the car fire is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
