Police seek witnesses to registration plate thefts

Boroondara Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a series of theft of registration plates from residential addresses in Balwyn and Hawthorn East, Victoria Police say.

Investigators have been told registration plates were stolen from a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence in Birdwood Street sometime between 5.30pm on 1 December and 7.30am on Sunday 2 December.

The plates, registration 1CV 7CV, were used on a silver coloured mid 2000 Honda Odyssey wagon to steal fuel form a service station in Blackburn on (date).

It’s believed the same offender stole registration plates from a vehicle parked in a driveway of an Auburn Road residence sometime between 11pm on 12 January and 11am on 13 January.

The offender used the same vehicle with the stolen registration plates, 1GG 7DA, to steal fuel from a (street/road) service station in Kensington about 6.45am on 17 January.

Investigators have released images of a man they are keen to speak to about the incident along with a vehicle.

He is described as being about 45-years-old, Caucasian with a solid build and short dark hair.

He was wearing a black Lonsdale windcheater and long dark pants and black shoes.

Anyone with information or who may recognise these men is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
