Police seek witnesses to Richmond assault

Yarra Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for witnesses following an assault in Richmond that left a man unconscious last weekend.

It's believed a 28-year-old Port Melbourne man was approached from behind by two unknown males about 9.20pm at the corner of Church and Lesney Streets on Saturday, 19 February.

The victim was struck to the head, rendering him unconscious, before the offenders left the scene on foot.

He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 22-year-old St Kilda man has been interviewed and released pending further enquiries.

Investigators are keen to speak to the occupants of a 2015 white Toyota Camry that had stopped on Lesney Street and may have witnessed the incident.

An image of that vehicle has been released.

Any witnesses or anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit an online report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.auExternal Link.
