Police seeking witness to Newnham Service Station Armed Robbery, TAS

Police investigating an Armed Robbery at the United Service Station in Newnham Sunday night are calling for information from a witness at the scene, Tasmania Police say.

Around 6.30pm Sunday, a male entered the service station on George Town Road and demanded money from the attendant, armed with a firearm. He stole a computer from behind the counter before fleeing the scene.

Police have charged a 16-year-old male youth with Armed Robbery and Stealing. He was detained to appear before the Youth Division of the Launceston Magistrates Court today.

At the time of the robbery, a member of the community riding a scooter, believed to be a male youth, entered the service station and was threatened by the armed youth. Police are urging this member of the community to come forward and provide witness information by calling Launceston CIB on 6777 3911.

No one was physically injured during the robbery.
