Police seize cash found in creek at Dapto

Police have seized an amount of cash that was found floating in a creek near Wollongong.

About 9.20am today (Monday 5 August) a member of the public was walking to the train station when an amount of cash was sighted next to Mullet Creek on Bong Bong Road, Dapto.

A photograph was taken and forwarded to a relative, who attended the location before alerting police.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District attended the scene and, with the assistance of Fire and Rescue NSW, managed to retrieve the cash using a long-handled net as it was floating in the creek.

Officers from the NSW State Emergency Service attended the scene with a small inflatable boat to help retrieve the cash.

The cash was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station for examination and is currently being examined to determine authenticity.

Police inquiries are continuing.
