Police Shooting Prompts Critical Incident in Mt Druitt

A critical incident investigation has been declared after a man was shot by police following an incident at a shopping centre in Sydney's northwest today.

About 3.15pm today (Saturday 12 July 2025), police were called to a shopping centre carpark on North Parade, Mount Druitt, near Carlisle Avenue, following reports of a brawl involving two groups of people.

Whilst police were at the scene, uniform officers were confronted by a male allegedly armed with a machete, who threatened them.

Police then fired a number of shots at the man.

Officers immediately rendered first aid to the man, who was then treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics.

A crime scene was established and an investigation into the circumstances of the incident commenced.

Just after 4.00pm, a critical incident was declared when the man, believed to be aged in his 20s, died at the scene.

A critical incident team from State Crime Command's Homicide Squad will lead the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation will be reviewed by the Professional Standards Command and oversighted by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC).
