Police Treating Fires As Suspicious, St George

Police are investigating a series of suspicious fires in St George over the past five months.

Since April there has been 17 fires reported, 15 of which were lit over a two-week period between 29 April and 11 May.

The small grass fires were lit along Wagoo Road, Whyenbah Road, Thuraggi Road, Marie Street, Arthur Street, Buckinbah Road, Alfred Street, Commissioners Point Road, Grey Street, Canarvon Highway, on the corner of Rimmer Road and Carnarvon Highway and at the intersection of Grey Street and St Georges Terrace.

Another two fires were reported on 7 August and 2 September on Salmon Road.

The fires caused damage to an abandoned vehicle, refrigeration containers and a number of timber fences.

There were no reports of injuries. Police are appealing for anyone with information or relevant dashcam or CCTV to come forward.
