Police Update 1: Dangerous Driving Incident, Nerang

Five children have been charged after an allegedly stolen vehicle collided with a police vehicle in Nerang overnight, 5 October.

Around 3:10am, officers were patrolling along Riverview Road when it is alleged they sighted a stolen Hyundai Elantra and a BMW X6 travelling in convoy at speed along the road.

A short time later, another police vehicle was patrolling further up Riverview Road in the opposite direction and was spotted by the lead Hyundai, who braked heavily

The BMW, travelling behind the Hyundai, collided with the back of the Hyundai and was propelled forward, striking the oncoming police vehicle. The Hyundai was pushed forward and crashed into a nearby parked vehicle.

The occupants of both the BMW and Hyundai then fled the vehicles on foot but were taken into custody shortly afterwards.

The single occupant of the police vehicle, a male sergeant, was transported to hospital for assessment.

It will be alleged that the BMW was stolen from an Upper Coomera address earlier that evening, and the Hyundai was stolen from an Underwood address on 3 October.

A 14-year-old Coomera boy has been charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and burglary.

A 14-year-old Durack boy has been charged with seven offences, including one count each of stealing, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, enter premises and burglary and three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

A 13-year-old Pimpama boy has been charged with one count each of burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and breach of bail conditions.

A14-year-old Pimpama boy has been charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and breach of bail conditions.

A 13-year-old Stretton girl has been charged with one count each of burglary and unlawful use of a motor vehicle and two counts of breach of bail conditions.

All are expected to appear before Southport Children's Court tomorrow, 6 October.
