Police update 1: Missing 58-year-old man, Goodna

A 24-year-old man has been taken into custody in Byron Bay following investigations into the suspicious disappearance of David Thornton from Goodna.

In the search for Mr Thornton, police yesterday excavated a freezer from the backyard of a Parker Street property which is now confirmed to have contained human remains.

Forensic testing will now be completed to confirm the identity of the deceased.

Mr Thornton was last seen in February and his disappearance was considered out of character.

Officers will file extradition papers to transport the 24-year-old man from NSW to Queensland tomorrow and appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court.

It is believed the two men were known to each other.

Investigations are continuing.
