Police update 1: Search continues for man missing in waters off Southport

Gold Coast Water Police continue to coordinate an air and sea search for a 54-year-old Labrador man missing in waters off Southport since Sunday, December 29.

Today's search involves multiple vessels from the Queensland Water Police (Gold Coast, Redlands and Brisbane) as well as the Coast Guard, Volunteer Marine Rescue and Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ).

Aerial assets include helicopters from Polair, Rescue 500 and SLSQ, as well as fixed wing aircraft from the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.

Around 1.35pm yesterday (December 29) police were advised that a jetski was found drifting in the Coral Sea, approximately 13kms east of the Southport seaway.

Police located a vehicle and trailer belonging to the 54-year-old man at a Main Beach boat ramp.

A multi-agency air, sea and land search was commenced and continued until around 1am this morning before resuming again around 5am.

Police have spoken to the man's family and continue to liaise closely with them.
