Police update 1: Search continues for overdue plane at Gold Coast

Gold Coast Water Police continue to coordinate an air, sea and land search for an overdue plane with police also still working to confirm the origins of debris located yesterday afternoon.

The debris was found on the coastline of South Stradbroke Island around 5.30pm , June 5.

A male pilot aged 52 and his passenger, a 31-year woman were on-board the Yak 52 aircraft that failed to return from a flight that departed a Coombabah airfield at around 10am yesterday.

Police will continue an air, sea and land search today for the plane with the assistance of Polair and the Westpac helicopter, jet skis, all-terrain vehicles, police vessels and volunteer marine rescue groups.

Specialised underwater sonar equipment will also be utilised by police to search for the aircraft.
