Police Update 4: Armed Robbery, Chermside

Detectives have located and charged a sixth offender in relation to the alleged armed robbery of a Chermside business in June this year.

On Tuesday, 10 June, shortly after 5pm, it will be alleged a group armed with hammers, metal bars and wearing masks, entered a Gympie Road jewellery store.

It is further alleged the group then smashed a number of glass cabinets and stole a large amount of jewellery before leaving in a grey Honda CR-V station wagon, allegedly stolen from a Calamvale residence on Sunday, 8 June.

A 38-year-old male employee, who was working at the time, was allegedly struck in the head with a hammer during the incident by a 21-year-old man, who then fled the scene.

Following extensive investigations, detectives from North Brisbane District (NBD), including officers from Fortitude Valley Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and Brisbane Tactical Crime Squad, located and arrested a 21-year-old man in Holland Park today, 2 September.

The man has been charged with one count each of robbery armed/in company/wounded/used personal violence, acts intended to maim/disfigure/disable, robbery armed/in company/wounded/used personal violence, enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence, endangering children by exposure and unlawful use of motor vehicles aircraft or vessels – use used/intended for indictable offence in company.

He has also been charged with several other offences following investigations into incidents across the North Brisbane.

The man is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow, 3 September.

"Queensland Police Service (QPS) detectives remain dedicated to holding offenders who commit serious acts of violence in the community, accountable," NBD Detective Inspector John Mison said.

"Criminal behaviour will never be tolerated.
