Police update: Armed robbery at Ascot

Police have charged a man after the alleged robbery of a sporting club in Ascot last night.

It will be alleged shortly before 9.30pm, two men wearing balaclavas entered the club on Lancaster Road and approached a male staff member.

One of the men grabbed the staff member and threatened him with a screw driver and during an altercation, the staff member was punched in the face by one of the men.

The pair then stole a sum of cash before fleeing the scene in a light-coloured Mercedes sedan which was last seen heading north on Nudgee Road.

Police later observed a Mercedes sedan heading into the Clem 7 tunnel and successfully deployed a tyre deflation device on Avondale Street at Annerley.

The vehicle was located behind a unit block a short time later and a man was arrested nearby around 2.15am.

The man was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital for medical treatment before been charged at 6.44pm today with one count each of robbery in company, burglary, break and enter and receiving tainted property.

He will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow, April 23.
