Police update: Armed robbery, Sunnybank

Detectives from Morningside Child Protection and Investigation Unit (CPIU) have charged a 16-year-old boy following an alleged armed robbery in Sunnybank this morning, May 11.

It will be alleged just before 12.30am, the boy was inside a rideshare vehicle on Dixon Street when he threatened the driver with a knife before stealing his car.

The driver, a 32-year-old Algester man, was not physically injured.

Police will further allege the boy, along with a male passenger, fled the scene in the stolen blue 2017 Kia Cerato before abandoning the vehicle in Pimpama.

The car was located by police.

A 16-year-old Pimpama boy was taken into police custody a short time later.

He has been charged with one count each of enter dwelling and commit, attempted armed robbery, armed robbery and unlawful use of motor vehicle.

He is due to appear at Brisbane Childrens Court at a later date.

Investigations are continuing.
