Police update: Disturbance, wounding investigation, Cairns North

Police have charged an 18-year-old man following investigations into an alleged disturbance at a Cairns North licensed venue between two groups of people known to each other.

Police will allege, shortly before 1am this morning at Lake Street, the 18-year-old stabbed a 55-year-old man in his chest following a verbal altercation.

The 55-year-old from Aurukun was treated at the scene before being transported to hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

Police attending the hospital located an injured 36-year-old Gordonvale woman in company with the 18-year-old Aurukun man.

The 18-year-old Aurukun man was arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court tomorrow, September 21.

Investigations are continuing into the disturbance and how the man and woman, each from a different group, sustained their injuries.
