Police update: Fatal - Charges in Alice Springs

A 30-year-old man has been charged in relation to a fatal crash with a cyclist in Alice Springs at the weekend.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Alice Springs Local Court today charged with the following;

  • Dangerous Driving Causing Death
  • Supply Schedule 1 Dangerous Drug
  • Possess Schedule 1 Dangerous Drug - Traffickable Quantity
  • Drive with Prohibited Drug in Body (Methamphetamine).

Police located an amount of drugs in close proximity to the crash site. The drugs were seized and will be forensically tested. It will be alleged that the man hid the drugs in the location immediately following the crash.

Major Crash and local detectives obtained multiple witness statements and interviewed the man in custody, yesterday.

Police continue to call for people who recorded footage of the cycling event from Alice Springs to Simpsons Gap on Saturday morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner, "Anyone who recorded footage while riding in the cycling event or has dashcam or other footage, is urged to contact police on 131444 and quote ref 9581096".
