Police Update: Fatal Traffic Crash, Gaven

The Forensic Crash Unit has charged a man following investigations into a fatal traffic crash at Gaven on 21 September.

Around 2.50am, a silver Jeep Cherokee was parked on the side of the M1, northbound, near the Smith Street on-ramp when it was struck by a grey Toyota Hilux.

A male infant, who was inside the Jeep at the time of the crash, was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital but died a short time later.

The driver of the Jeep, a 24-year-old Ormeau Hills woman, was also taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.

The driver of the Toyota, a 51-year-old Loganlea man, sustained minor injuries.

Following a comprehensive protracted investigation, the 51-year-old Loganlea man has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, offence of driving while a relevant drug is present in blood or saliva, and driving without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for other persons, causing death or grievous bodily harm.

He is due to reappear at Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow, 12 December.

Investigations remain ongoing.
