Detectives are continuing their appeal for witnesses and information as part of ongoing investigations into a fatal traffic incident at Stapylton in early hours of Saturday, 25 October.
It will be alleged that around 5am, a 22-year-old woman, 24-year-old man, 3-year-old boy and 1-year-old boy were travelling in a vehicle along Burnside Road when it crashed.
The 3-year-old passenger sustained significant head injuries.
He and the 22-year-old woman were transported by a witness to Beenleigh Police Station, where the boy died.
Around 6.30am, police located the 24-year-old Beenleigh man and 1-year-old boy at a Beenleigh address.
The 1-year-old was taken to hospital for assessment but was later cleared.
Police subsequently launched Operation Xray Grid which has seen officers from the Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch, Child Protection and Investigation Unit and other specialist areas work tirelessly to ascertain the cause of the crash.
The complex investigation has seen thorough forensic and mechanical inspections completed over the past three weeks.
As a result of these subsequent investigations, police have now determined that the 22-year-old Labrador woman was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Detectives are continuing their appeal to the public for any relevant information or vision which may assist ongoing investigations.
