Police update: Homicide investigation, Ashmore

Police have charged a man with murder after the body of a man was located at Ashmore yesterday (February 12).

Police were called to a Lillian Crescent address at approximately 8.45am, to conduct a welfare check.

Upon arrival officers located a body, believed to be a 62-year-old man, in the backyard.

The property was immediately declared a crime scene and a homicide investigation was launched.

A 36-year-old Victorian man was located with a vehicle of interest at a location along Southport Nerang Road at Molendinar just before 1.00pm.

He was taken into custody without incident.

He has since been charged with one count each of murder, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and receiving tainted property.

He is expected to appear at Southport Magistrates Court today (February 13).

Police continue to appeal to anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage in the vicinity of Lillian Crescent on Saturday night and Sunday morning to come forward.

Anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage in relation to the movements of a white 2005 Toyota Hilux (captured in below vision) between 6.30pm on Saturday, February 11 and 1pm Sunday, February 12 is urged to contact police.
