Police update: Police officer injured, driver arrested at Alberton

Police have charged a 26-year-old man following an incident yesterday morning (October 19) where a police officer was allegedly struck by a stolen vehicle at Alberton.

Police will allege they attended a hotel on Stapylton Jacobs Well Road around 10.30am where they attempted to arrest a man and woman in a stolen silver Captiva.

It is alleged a 32-year-old Detective Senior Constable attempted to apprehend the pair and was struck by the vehicle as it fled the scene.

The officer was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was released last night following treatment for serious bruising and abrasions.

The vehicle was tracked by Polair with the man and woman abandoning the car in Melwood Street, Eagleby and entering a waiting vehicle.

This vehicle was also tracked by Polair with the two occupants seen to exit that vehicle on the Logan Motorway and enter a ride-share vehicle.

They were then driven to a Barossa Street address at Kingston where police attended a short time later.

A 26-year-old man, the alleged driver of the stolen sedan, was arrested at the scene, however, his female passenger fled on foot.

A 26-year-old man from Upper Coomera was charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving unlicensed and acts intended to prevent lawful arrest. He is due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court later today.

A 27-year-old Eagleby woman was arrested in Barossa Street, Kingston later yesterday. It is alleged she had been a passenger in the stolen Captiva and was charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle. She is due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on November 11.

A 33-year-old Woodridge man who was inside the hotel at the time of the incident, was arrested by police at the scene. It is alleged he had been a passenger in the stolen Captiva. He was charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court later today.

The silver Captiva was allegedly stolen on October 17 from Browns Plains.
