A man has been arrested and a police operation has concluded at Croydon Park.
About 7.45pm (Sunday 5 October 2025), police were called to Georges River Road, near the intersection of Brighton Street, after reports of a public place shooting.
The area was locked down by officers attached to Burwood and Inner West Police Area Commands, with assistance from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, and specialist resources – including PolAir, Tactical Operations Unit, Police Negotiators and the Dog Unit - attended to assist.
About 9.30pm, police entered a unit above a business on Georges River Road and arrested a 60-year-old man.
A number of firearms were located and seized.
The 60-year-old man was taken to hospital under police guard for injuries sustained during the arrest.
A number of vehicles, including a police vehicle, sustained damage after reportedly being shot at.
Police have been told a man presented to Canterbury Hospital with a gunshot wound and was later transported to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a serious condition.
A further three people attended Campsie Police Station with minor injuries. They were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before two were taken to Canterbury Hospital for treatment.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated 16 people at the scene for minor injuries. Of those, two men were taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment.
There have been no reports of police being injured.
Police have established a crime scene and inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident have commenced.
Road closures will remain in place for some time and motorists are advised to use alternate routes.
