Police update: Search for missing helicopter at Anna Bay

The search is continuing for a helicopter with five people on board missing off Anna Bay.

Police were advised of an aircraft fading off the radar about 6.30pm (Friday 6 September 2019), before a search operation was commenced in the vicinity of Anna Bay.

The search, coordinated by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) through the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), is being assisted by officers from the NSW Police Marine Area Command, Port Stephens-Hunter Police District, Westpac Rescue Helicopter, NSW Marine Rescue, and various aerial support.

The search was suspended about 12.50am today (Saturday 7 September 2019), but recommenced about 7am.

Wreckage has been spotted by aerial assets off Fingal Head, however due to adverse conditions no significant wreckage has been recovered.

Inquiries suggest the aircraft had five people on board – four men and a woman – and was travelling from Brisbane to Bankstown.
